Day 8

Yesterday, I started to answer some questions that you might have about The Thankfulness Experiment.  Today I'm focusing on "Why 10,000 reasons?"  In case you're wondering, it was not just a random number that I came up with.  The number 10,000 is actually based on the song 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman.  It's an amazing worship song that reminds us that we all have so many reasons to be thankful.  My favorite verse says: "The sun comes up, it's a new day dawning.  It's time to sing Your song again.  Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me, let me be singing when the evening comes." I love this verse because it reminds me that I need to be thankful when the day is over, even if it was a rough day.  Blogging helps me put this into practice.  And here's a link to to 10,000 Reasons if you'd like to listen to it:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXDGE_lRI0E

Today's thankful list is actually based on a rough lesson I've learned over the past 24 hours.  Do you have something in your life that you know you should do, but you avoid doing it because you don't like it?  For me, it's organizing my house.  I can organize an event, a birthday party, and my calendar with the best of 'em... but when it comes to organizing my house, I avoid it like the plague.  Clutter doesn't bother me too much, however, my hubby is not a fan.  Honestly, he is very patient with me in this area, but sometimes, he's ready for some action.  And yesterday, we had a discussion about getting the house organized... and while I was not a fan of adding this to my To Do List, I was convicted because I knew he was right.  After our discussion, I went to a Wednesday night Bible Study and one topic we discussed was honoring our husbands.  Ouch!  God knew I needed some further motivation for taking action on the stacks around the house.  And then, God wasn't done with me yet, because when I completed my homework for my Thursday Bible Study, it was on being undisciplined... can you believe it?  Double ouch!!

So, when my small group met this morning and our facilitator asked if this week's homework hit home with anyone, guess who had to speak up?  You got it - me!  And I was encouraged to find out that I'm not the only one who struggles with home organization.  The best outcome from the discussion was some great tips and ideas on making organization more fun.  So after this morning, I'm in a much better place about home organization.  God knew I needed a double whammy to get my attention, and now I have a game plan too.  :)

So here's what I'm thankful for today...

1.  God loving me enough to go to such efforts to get my attention regarding organization
2.  My Bible Study friends who encouraged me and gave me great ideas about reframing my mindset on organization
3.  The two binders I bought to get started on a small organization project... you know, get some small wins under your belt before moving onto the bigger stuff...
4.  Impromptu family game night and watching my 7 year old help his brother play Uno Moo
5.  Catching up with my best friend from graduate school

Here's to 10,000 reasons... only 9,040 to go...
